Breakfast: a sweet way to say thank you

With the end of the school year comes the graduation parties, year end shows and lots of plans for a great summertime.  It is also time to thank the wonderful teachers who do an amazing job of educating our children.

This year I wanted to do something different, so instead of buying a present or gift card, I surprised the teachers with a special homemade breakfast complete with  gaufres, amaretti cake and fresh squeezed orange juice.  It was a simple gesture that made a big impression!  I hope they realized how special they are.

Miami: I've got flowers on my mind!!!

When you think of Miami, what comes to mind?  Sexy people, fabulous beaches and miles of luscious landscaping full of palm trees, right?  Well, you  may need to add flowers to your list.

Fresh-cut flowers are the top perishable commodity at Miami International airport and play a very important role in the local economy.  The Miami fresh-cut flower industry employs around 7,000 people and supply roughly about 86 percent of the approximately 4.5 billion fresh-cut flowers imported into United States every year.  On a daily basis, approximately 40,000 boxes of fresh-cut flowers arrive at Miami International Airport primarily from Ecuador and Colombia to be distributed nationwide by specialized transportation companies such as C.H. Robinson Floral Solutions.

Miami is also home of the biggest floral show in the country - The International Floriculture Expo.  It was held last week at the Miami Beach Convention Center.  This show is unique by being the only of its kind bringing people from every sector of the floriculture industry together to network, learn and do business.

I leave you with some pictures of the show.  Don’t forget to pick up a bunch of fresh cut flowers the next time you stop by your local grocery store to help our local economy.

Summer hats: a must have fashion accessory

Summer is around the corner and while we are all caught up shopping for bikinis, sundresses and havaianas, girlfriends beware: nothing makes a bigger fashion statement than a nice hat.

However, not many people are comfortable wearing a hat.  The most common excuses are "I don't look good on a hat" or "I can't find one that fits me".  That maybe true, but it's time to put the excuses to the test.

First I went to South Beach to see what regular people are actually wearing out and about the town.  And let me tell you, they look good!!!

South Beach style alert: HATS
After being inspired by the fabulous hats in South Beach, I continued on my research.  I already know that a great hat can make you look good, so how do I find the one that fits my style and personality? Wait no more fashionistas, take your pick from the list below with some of the latest hat styles out there and get ready to shop.

1.  Floppy or Sunhats

2.  Fedora

3.  Cowboy

4.  Panama - a straw hat with a black ribbon

5. Bonnet

I love the Fedora hat for a fashion statement, but I definitely prefer the floppy style on the beach.  And you, what is your hat style for this summer?

Romero Britto designs parking meters for the Miami Homeless

More popular in Miami than the Havaianas brand is another Brazilian icon, Romero Britto.

The artist known for its bold colors and bright cheerful patterns has its art showcased not only at his gallery on Lincoln Road but at most landmarks accross Miami such as the Dolphin Stadium, American Airlines arena, Childrens Musem and many others.

One of his latest project is a collaboration with the Homeless fund and features parking meters  in bright yellow with colorful patterns.  Tourists be aware, the money collected is not actually to pay for parking but rather to be used in a fund for the Homeless cause in Miami.

Be generous and enjoy the new addition of Britto's design to South  Beach.

NBA Finals: "Heat vs Mavericks" game #2 inside scoop.

My husband was lucky enough to get a ticket for the NBA Finals game 2 this week at the American Airlines arena .  I am so jealous!!!!  However, to make up for it, he is giving us the inside scoop on the players, the fans and of course the disappointing loss for the Heat.

Please welcome my first guest blogger, Javier.

Okay, so working for Corporate America has some nice perks like getting tickets to the sold out NBA Finals.  It was my first time at an NBA Finals game and it exceeded all expectations.  Everything from the pregame at Bayside, the Heat fans outside the stadium, the singing of the national anthem, the introduction of the players to the actual game was something to remember.

I am not going to tell you anything new about the game that you did not see on TV.  The game was going the way we had imagined and we went to half time tied up.  The crowd was very excited because Wade was definitely on fire tonight and we were just waiting to get to the fourth quarter to see LBJ closing time.  And we were not disappointed as the Heats took the biggest lead of the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter.  And then what happened?, it felt like the Heat had already gone to the locker room and were in the shower with five minutes left in the game.  It was painful and nerve racking to watch the Mavericks pull one of the greatest comebacks in NBA Finals history.  At the end we all left perplexed.  Everybody was asking themselves in their own minds the same question, how did this happened?.

The good news is that I am going to share a few videos so you can have the inside scoop on the game, the crowd, the music, the atmosphere, the celebrities, the tribute to Shaq, etc...
Enjoy!

Havaianas by Missoni: beach sandals go couture for the 2011 summer

I came across these fabulous new flip flops from Havaianas yesterday in South Beach.

Havaianas - a Brazilian brand and one of the most popular names in summer sandals -  has now gone couture with this limited edition design by Missoni.  The partnership with the Italian knitwear designer known for its bold and graphic patterns is featured in three styles of sandals and one espadrille style.

My pick is the espadrille style, LOVE IT!!!  What is your style of Havaianas?
